Sleazy Canucks Ownership History Continues

With the court case involving the ownership of the Vancouver Canucks
getting underway it is fitting to note this isn't the first time there
has been problems with the ownership of the team which hasn't won the
Stanley Cup in 37 years.

One of the original owners went to prison for a financial crime, one
of the McCaw brothers was heavily fined for importing luxury cars and
not paying the excise tax on them despite his wealth and Gary
"Suitcase" Smith despite a winning record was traded for refusing to
speak to the wife of owner Frank Griiffiths at a club party.

Orca Bay has had business dealings with a criminal by the name of
G. S..

Was involved in the Colleen Ryder disappearance in Surrey and has
links to Hell's Angels in Alberta. Frequently in contact with an HAMC
member named Terry who drives a red corvette among other things.

The Canucks are behind the Mighty Ducks 2-1 in the series and all
their loyal fans hope that Cowan, Luongo, Linden and the rest can pull
out a win in the next game and go on to win the series. It would be a
shame to see Bertuzzi advance farther than the Canucks do.






Court fight begins over ownership of NHL's Vancouver Canucks

VANCOUVER (CP) - An epic lawsuit pitting the would-be owners of the
Vancouver Canucks NHL franchise against the family that bought the
team has begun in B.C. Supreme Court.

A lawyer for two prominent Vancouver businessmen is alleging Canucks
owner Francesco Aquilini was originally part of a three-person group
negotiating to buy a stake in the team.

They accuse Aquilini of going behind his partners' back to negotiate
his own deal.

Tom Gaglardi and Ryan Beedie say they were unfairly cut out of the
deal because of Aquilini's close personal relationship with Stan
McCammon, former Orca Bay CEO.

The Canucks were previously owned by Seattle businessman John McCaw.

Court heard McCaw was putting in $20 million every year to keep the
Canucks and GM Place afloat and never really wanted full ownership of
the team.
